Finding the balance between feminine and masculine energy in your business
Have you ever felt guilty for slowing down, even when you know you actually need the rest? Like there's an invisible deadline pushing you to always be further along than you currently are? ✨
I recorded episode 12 of Soul & Strategy from my childhood bedroom in Germany, mid-trip, after realising I hadn't taken a real break since the beginning of the year. What came out of that month is exactly what this episode and this article are about: the balance between feminine and masculine energy in business.

The question that stopped me in my tracks
I arrived in Germany with a full list: trainings I hadn't finished, my tax return, new freebies to release, an in-person workshop to plan. I started pushing forward immediately, even while trying to spend real time with family. Somewhere in the middle of that month, I sat down and asked myself a question a yoga mentor once gave me: who is actually rushing you? Who was making moves ahead and doing all these things while also trying to maximise the time with my family and friends?
No surprise … The answer is always me. There's no external deadline forcing the pace, no one else holding the ambitious goals. Trees don't rush to grow. A seed doesn't rush to bloom. The only one rushing the process is us.
That question is actually what led me to the real topic of this episode. Because rushing myself, needing to always be further ahead, is really just one energy taking over without its counterpart to balance it. Which brings us to feminine and masculine energy.
What feminine and masculine energy actually mean
This isn't about gender; everyone holds both energies, the same way day and night, or yin and yang, exist as two halves of a whole.
Feminine energy is flowy, creative, intuitive. It's going with the flow, creating something new, being led by what you enjoy, staying present in the moment. Think of feminine energy as free-flowing water.
Masculine energy is structure, planning, having discipline, following a plan through, focusing. It's the riverbed that gives the water direction.
Why you need both: water without a riverbed doesn't become a river; it becomes a puddle. It's there, but it isn't moving anywhere.
Too much masculine energy in your business can lead to burnout and make the process feel like a grind. This can look like hustling, overworking, ignoring your body's signals, sticking rigidly to a plan even once it stops feeling aligned.
Too much feminine energy in your business can keep you stuck, confused and directionless. You jump from one strategy or project to the next without ever finishing, only show up when you feel motivated, and lack the follow-through that actually gets something across the finish line.
Neither extreme runs a sustainable business. You need both the intuition and creativity of the feminine and the structure and consistency of the masculine, working together, to build a sustainable and successful business that lights you up.
Where do you sit on the scale?
Take a moment to actually notice this for yourself. Are you leaning toward the feminine: full of ideas, going with the flow, struggling with structure and sticking to your plan? Or toward the masculine: structured, disciplined, always taking action, but maybe not leaving room to rest, follow your intuition or listen to your body?
For me, it's almost always been the masculine. This month in Germany forced a shift, and I want to share what that actually looked like: not launching, not creating anything new, just maintaining. Recording the podcast, serving my existing clients, showing up on Instagram, and that was it. I read a 700-page fiction book in three weeks, something I never do. I baked, gardened, went for walks and runs, and played cards with my parents. I pushed my planned in-person workshop out to October simply because I didn't want to plan it right then.
I gave myself permission to change my mind mid-month, even after arriving with a full list of intentions. That in itself is feminine energy in action.
A visualisation I use with clients
One exercise I actually walk clients through is imagining this exact scale, masculine energy on one side, feminine on the other, and asking where you currently stand. Are you close to the centre, or leaning heavily toward one side?
And if you moved a little closer to the middle, what would that version of you, your day-to-day and your business actually look like? Take a moment to imagine this new reality.
For example:
If you're more in your masculine, integrating feminine energy might look like setting real boundaries with your work and clients, finishing work at a set time and just enjoying your evening, taking regular breaks during the day, not opening your laptop just because you have time on a weekend, and answering emails and messages during your working hours, not late at night.
If you're more in your feminine, integrating masculine energy might look like building a bit more structure by, e.g. using a calendar and planning your content and launches, having regular working hours, doing the less exciting but necessary tasks, following up with a potential client, promoting your offer, even when it doesn't feel exciting in the moment. Leaning into the masculine means building discipline and structure to hold the feminine energy.
Key takeaways
Ask yourself who is actually rushing you. Most of the time, the deadline pressure is self-imposed, not external.
Feminine energy without masculine structure tends to stay stuck: lots of movement, little forward progress.
Masculine energy without feminine flow tends to burn out, rigid plans followed even after they stop feeling aligned.
Awareness of where you currently sit on the scale is the first and most important step toward finding balance.
Giving yourself permission to change your plan midway isn't a failure; it can be exactly the feminine energy your business needs.
Curious where you sit on the scale?
