The roadmap from vision to a sustainable soul-led business and first clients

You have the vision. You know, deep down, that you're meant to help people through coaching, healing, or facilitating. But somewhere between that vision and an actual business with actual paying clients, things get foggy. Where do you even start? What comes first? ✨

In episode 5 of Soul & Strategy, I'm laying out the exact roadmap I take my 1:1 clients through, the same one I used to build my own business. Listen to the full episode above, or keep reading for the breakdown.

1. Start with soul, not strategy

Here's the foundation of how I teach business: we always start from the inside out.Soul and strategy really just mean internal and external. Because when you start with the strategy, you’re running the risk of building something that doesn’t actually feel aligned. And the essence of a soul-led business is that you follow your calling, not someone else’s opinion of what’s best.

  • The soul is your intuition, your inner knowing, your values, the lifestyle you actually want to live.

  • The strategy is the plan, the steps, the actions.

Most people want to jump straight to strategy. But we always start with your unique why: Why do you feel called to build this business?

For most people it's twofold: the impact you want to create for others, and the personal reason underneath it, maybe freedom, flexibility, or the ability to work from anywhere. Your why needs to be bigger than your fear or any challenge that will come your way, because they will as you grow your business! And if your why isn’t big enough, you’ll eventually quit before you even reach your goal…

Sit with that for a second and ask yourself why you want to build your business.

When I started, my why was simply to help people step into their highest self. It was broad, and that's completely fine at this stage. Your why is your compass, not a finished mission statement.

2. Get specific about who you want to help

From that broad why, we narrow down. I could have helped "anyone" step into their highest self, but to actually build a business, you need to choose a group of people and the challenges they're facing.

Ask yourself: what are they struggling with day to day, and what do they actually want to create in their life?

This is where a lot of people get stuck, staying too vague and "fluffy" in their messaging. It's not enough to say someone wants to "feel more confident." What does that actually look like for them in their day-to-day life? How would they know if they are more confident? E.g., saying no to things without guilt? Quitting the job they don’t like? Starting their own business? Find the tangible outcome underneath the feeling!

Hot tip: Don't skip market research here. Talk to the people you want to work with. What are they struggling with? What do they actually need (not what you want them to buy)? What offer would they pay for?

3. Build the offer that bridges the gap

Picture your ideal client on one side, in their current reality with their current challenges, and their desired outcome on the other side. Your offer is the bridge between those two points. In my case, that's my five-month 1:1 coaching package, helping new coaches and facilitators go from feeling overwhelmed, confused and afraid to show up, to signing their first paying clients and feeling truly confident while building their business.

Ask yourself what the bridge looks like for your people.

Then build an offer that solves their main challenges, helps them move towards what they want and also creates recurring revenues for you so you don’t need to start every month from zero (think multi-month offers or packages).

4. Become visible

Once your foundation is in place, the next step is visibility. If nobody knows what you offer, you can't help them!

There are a few ways to become visible:

  1. Organic content: This is content on your own platform (e.g. Instagram posts, podcast episodes, blog articles like this). This takes time to build but is free.

  2. Tapping into someone else's audience: For example, through collaborations, guest podcast appearances, hosting an event at someone else's venue, or writing a guest blog post. This is usually the fastest way to become visible early on, as you can bring their audience over to your platform.

  3. Paid advertisement: Ads are the fastest way to get more eyes on your content and grow your following, but also the most expensive. I’d only recomment to use ads once your message and audience are already clear. Ads accelerate what's already working; otherwise they can become a waste of money.

5. Create something that invites people in

Once eyes are on you, you need a way to actually invite people into your world. That's your freebie / lead magnet (e.g. a PDF guide, checklist, audio training, challenge), or conversion event (often a live webinar or masterclass). It should feel like a smaller, lower-stakes version of your main offer, not disconnected from it. Everything you create should lead into your main offer!

A great place to find this idea is in what's already resonating.I noticed one of my Instagram carousel posts about selling out in-person workshops performed really well, so I turned it into a full PDF guide with more depth added. That guide has brought in a huge number of newsletter subscribers since.

If you don’t know what your audience might be interested in, go back to the market research; e.g. you could put up a poll on Instagram or talk to people who you know are your ideal client. Another way to find a topic for your lead magnet is to take one small and specific challenge they have and create a digestible free offer that solves this problem for them.

Lead magnets should not only be informative, but they should get your ideal client to take action and experience a win. This will make it way more likely to trust you as the expert and join your main offer.

A quick note here: PDF guides are great for getting people in, but they build less trust than something with real energy behind it, like a live workshop or recorded series. A mix of both works well.

6. The call that bridges freebie to package

Once someone has engaged with your freebie or event, the next step is a value call, not just a generic "free discovery call." I called mine my “quiet confidence breakthrough session” when I was working as a confidence coach. It genuinely helped people get clarity on where they were, where they wanted to be, and what needed to happen in between, whether or not they ever became a client.

That's the goal. Someone should leave that call with real value, even if they never sign up.

Key takeaways

  • Start with your internal why before you touch strategy. It's your compass, not a finished mission statement.

  • Get specific about your audience's tangible challenges and desired outcomes, not just how they want to feel.

  • Your offer is the bridge between where your people are now and where they want to be.

  • Tapping into other people's audiences is the fastest way to become visible early on.

  • Every freebie or lead magnet should lead to your main offer, not sit disconnected on its own.
